Carpinteria, California – October 13, 2009 - NuSil Technology (http://www.nusil.com), a cutting-edge manufacturer of silicone-based materials for aerospace, aircraft, electronics and photonics industries, announces the release of CV-2391, the first controlled-volatility silicone foam in the industry.

Designed for aerospace, electronics and optic applications where outgassing is a concern, CV-2391 is a low outgassing, room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) foam that does not require additional processing to achieve NASA E 595 standards for Total Mass Loss (=1.00%) and Collected Volatile Condensable Material (=0.10%).

CV-2391 is an open-cell, tough, durable foam that uses non-corrosive blowing agents and cures in place. The foam is platinum-catalyzed and designed to cure at low temperatures with the option to accelerate the cure by applying heat. Considered a great candidate for potting, encapsulating, or back-filling, CV-2391 offers several benefits including shock and vibration dampening, increased fuel economy due to lighter loads, reworkability, and protection of fragile electronic components from dirt and debris. It can also be cured in place as space fillers, molded into rods, or in some cases, casted into foam sheets for die-cutting gaskets. The soft, compliant quality of CV-2391 provides an excellent seal when used for gaskets because the silicone foam can conform to the topography of surface interfaces while maintaining its general shape.

CV-2391 is available in a two-part, hand-mixable kit that yields a soft, white, low-density foam that fully cures at ambient temperature and humidity in 60 minutes.
